2012 Ocean Cheetah 38 - Under Offer
This Cheetah catamaran was one of the first of the new generation of performance cruising multihulls. These Shuttleworth designs now have several ocean passages behind them and the feature of form pitch damping and bow slightly raised on a reach have been tried and tested and have proven to be effective in improving comfort, promoting greater safety and increasing performance at sea. Aside from the sailing benefits of flaring the hull above the waterline, the flare gives a huge increase in interior volume without unduly increasing the windage of the hulls. The boat has been designed with a near rounded form and all the deck edges have generous curves to be as aerodynamically clean as possible. This is one of only two Shuttleworth Ocean Cheetah 38 catamarans in the world. Immediately after purchase in Fareham the owners fitted a mast, and engines, and equipped the boat to a safe level to allow it to be sailed to Troon (Scotland). It has been sailed since then in Scottish waters both on the inner and outer west coast. Above deck the main sail control is effected through the use of a full width track. The hydraulic steering is routed out of sight and fitted with an autohelm. The steering position has a carefully thought out binnacle creating a service space and a protected dashboard for the nav equipment. Winches were added to for using a Parasailor or ghoster. Solar panels were installed with two controllers serving two separate domestic battery banks. Sonic antifouling has also been installed. The interior uses cellite honeycomb panels curved to follow the hull shapes to maximise space. This allowed for the fitting of a heads compartment in each hull. The saloon deck, with large surround windows installed, has seating for eight, with the chart table incorporated. The galley is built on an elevated platform to the port side that retains headroom while keeping the utility of the lower hulls unaffected. Two spacious double stern cabins take full advantage of the hull flare and are provided with sprung wooded bed slats and thick foam mattresses. The interior of Cheetah is fully functional after its purchase as a project boat. But not all the desirable cosmetics are completed at this time as the family wanted to go sailing. To fully achieve Cheetah’s potential, headlinings and wall linings need to be added. Notwithstanding, Cheetah is a comfortable deceptively spacious and fast boat looking for a handy owner to complete the work.
